Job summary

The post operates at ST3 level or above, and is most suitable for a candidate with MRCP wishing to gain further experience in Cardiology. The post offers excellent experience in acute cardiology medicine.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for supervising Fleming and CCU ward In-patients and junior doctors, outpatient clinics and ward referrals from other firms.

Job responsibilities

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor to become part of the Cardiology Team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. Princess Alexandra Hospital has 6 dedicated CCU beds with an adjacent Cardiology Ward of 22 beds. The service is complemented by an outstanding and dedicated Nursing Team, including Specialist Cardiac Rehabilitation, Chest pain pathway nurses and Heart Failure Nurses. There is an excellent Cardiac Imaging service which includes Transthoracic, Dobutamine stress, Exercise echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography and Cardiac CT imaging services.

There is an onsite cardiac catheterisation laboratory delivering diagnostic Coronary Angiography and Pacemaker implantation with pacemaker follow up undertaken. A Complex device (ICD and CRT) follow up service has also recently commenced.

There are well developed links with the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre with fortnightly joint Cardiology Cardiothoracic meeting to discuss surgical cases. We run a busy outpatient clinic service including Rapid Access Chest pain, Arrhythmia and Heart Failure clinics.

The successful applicant will be expected to join a team of 5 middle grades, one specialist registrar, 2 Associate Specialists and 4 consultants. The role of the Specialty Doctor includes delivering outpatient clinics and supporting/ supervising junior staff on the ward during the Consultant of the week model. The post holders duties will also include reviewing Cardiology patients on the Emergency Assessment Unit and providing advice to our colleagues in general medicine/surgery. Training will be offered in cardiac imaging in addition to invasive angiography and pacing for a suitable candidate.
