Job summary
We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist with an interest in medical specialities for a Band 7 role within the Pharmacy Specialist Medicine Team on the St Mary's Hospital site.You will support the team with clinical ward services, funding of high cost medicines, Homecare prescription screening and support the Lead Rheumatology pharmacist with biologic MDTs.
You will also be involved in supporting & helping develop trainee pharmacists, band 6 pharmacists & medicines management pharmacy technicians as appropriate.
This role is suitable for an individual who is looking to develop their clinical skills within medical specialities. You will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of commissioning of high cost medicines and financial monitoring of medicines usage. You will be a team player with good attention to detail and good communication skills, able to work with a variety of different professionals.
Applicants should be a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You should have a postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent experiential learning. Interviews are likely to be Tuesday 14th April 2026.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a clinical pharmacy service to specialist medicine ward(s).
- To support the lead pharmacists in specialist medicine, particularly rheumatology.
- To gain experience of the funding and monitoring of high cost drugs, particularly in rheumatology including how biologics are reviewed in an MDT.
- To gain experience in Homecare prescription screening and management, particularly in rheumatology.
- To ensure the safe, clinically effective & cost efficient use of medicines.
- To improve the quality of pharmaceutical care to patients.
- To gain knowledge & experience in the management of common medical diseases.
- To support & develop trainee pharmacists, Band 6 pharmacists & medicines management pharmacy technicians as appropriate.You will also gain valuable experience in:
- Financial reporting (e.g. biosimilar savings, CIP schemes)
- Guideline development and review
- Formulary and interface work
