Labour Ward Manager

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife and dynamic leader to join our Labour Ward as a Band 7 Ward Manager.

The successful candidate will act as the clinical lead in the day-to-day activity. They will co-ordinate patient flow, ensuring the efficient running of the service, whilst utilising exceptional interpersonal skills to support junior staff and work collaboratively with all members of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the organisations objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality of patient care. It is essential that the post holder will be educated to degree level, experience of mentorship and has previous experience in leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination across the Labour Ward, overseeing the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for parents, families and carers.
  • Ensure safe and effective clinical practice in ensuring own knowledge, skills and competencies are current and act as clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge to others.
  • Support the elective work and ensure oversight for the forthcoming week
  • Manage midwifery and support staff within the clinical area to maintain smooth running of the service, including people management (health roster, sickness absence, annual leave)
  • Ensure safety checks and quality assurances met through audit and compliance, including ensuring resources and stock levels are maintained.
  • Complete datex investigation and assist the matrons with the implement local learning
  • Contribute to the delivery of the organisations objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency and quality in care delivery.
