Job summary
The Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) service is seeking a self-motivated, dynamic, and enthusiastic nurse with recent oncology or NET experience to create a new NET CNS service funded by Novartis as a 23 months fixed term contract.
The post is a full-time equivalent position. The NET Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a large NET Centre of Excellence, and we are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our busy service. As one of the largest NET centre in the UK, we offer a stimulating environment with opportunities for growth. An interest in setting up a new CNS service for this patient cohort is welcomed, a genuine enthusiasm for Neuroendocrine Tumours is essential.
As a NET CNS, you will undertake holistic assessments of patients' needs and provide supportive care aimed at enhancing their cancer experience and overall quality of life. You will collaborate closely with the NET & Neuro oncologists and the Lead Cancer Nurse to ensure excellence in care for this patient group.
You will be a fully integrated member of the multidisciplinary team, working across the entire patient pathway. This includes offering support throughout each stage of the NET & Neuro oncology journey. You will be expected to work both autonomously and as part of the team, managing and prioritising your caseload effectively. The Cancer CNS is also a key worker role, ensuring continuity, advocacy, and high-quality support for patients throughout their care.
Main duties of the job
- A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is a registered nurse with relevant experience and post-registration education for working at an enhanced level within a specific area of practice. They assess, manage, deliver care, advise on, and support patients.
- CNSs have the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability for their actions, acting as a skilled advisor for patients, or a resource for others.
- CNSs perform specialist holistic assessment and treatment using a personalised approach. This is characterised by a level of decision making based on detailed knowledge and understanding of their area of practice.
- As part of the multidisciplinary team CNSs can work in or across many settings, depending on their area of expertise and scope of practice.
