Job summary

The Women's, Cardiac, Clinical Support and Sexual Health Services (WCCS) Division is one of four divisions within the Imperial College Healthcare Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated team player to provide maternity cover in a multi-disciplinary team within Neonatology, to support the delivery of the human milk banking service and enable the provision of excellent patient care.

The Milk Bank at Queen Charlotte & Chelsea Hospital is the oldest continually running milk bank service in the world. Its core function is to provide safe, pasteurised milk donated by screened healthy women to premature and sick infants, whose own mothers cannot provide breast milk.

The QCCH Milk Bank provides milk to the two neonatal units in the Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust and aims to continue to grow the service and once again sustainably provide donor milk to external Trusts. The post holder will provide an effective and efficient administrative and technical laboratory support service to facilitate the smooth running of the Milk Bank.

We are looking for candidates with high attention to detail and excellent organisational skills. The candidate should be able to work as part of a small but dedicated team. They should have exceptional written and verbal communication skills necessary for building strong working relationships.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an effective and efficient administrative and technical service to facilitate the smooth running of the milk bank.
  • To assist with the technical and laboratory service within the milk bank, including donor milk reception, testing and pasteurisation.
  • Ensure that donor milk and all milk samples are appropriately labelled and stored.
  • To input and maintain accurate information on donor and donor milk records.
  • Establish, maintain and monitor excellent office and information systems.
  • Responsible for booking screening tests and assisting with following up results.
  • Ensure excellent quality and customer care skills when liaising with donors, internal and external users.
