Job summary
This is an opportunity to join the expanding team of speciality geriatricians embedded within the tertiary cardiology service at Hammersmith hospital. We are a dynamic group, running this pioneering service for patients with multimorbidity in this leading cardiac centre, with an expanding role across the department's many activities.
This post is based at the Hammersmith hospital, with acute unselected take for general internal medicine at St Mary's hospital. The postholder will be a Geriatrician, with subspeciality interest in cardiology and will provide inpatient care on C8 ward, general and speciality outpatient clinics, reviews of inpatients across the cardiac directorate and MDT support. The postholder will support the training of residents in geriatrics, as well as offer teaching to medical students and nurse practitioners. There will be opportunities for clinical governance activities, service development and research. An interest in rehab/prehab for cardia procedures is encouraged.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will manage an inpatient integrated cardiogeriatrics ward, together with a second consultant. They will be responsible for the day to day running of the ward, complex discharges, MDTs and family meetings. The postholder will undertake reviews of complex inpatients across the directorate to support complex decision making, frailty and multi-morbidity assessments. The postholder will manage outpatients focussing on general and cardio-geriatrics. The postholder will undertake acute unselected take at St Mary's hospital. The postholder will support residents and medical students in the department and will participate in ongoing governance and quality improvement activities. There will also be opportunities for research, based on interest and previous experience.
