Receptionist – Pre-Operative Assessment (POA)

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Pre-Operative Assessment department as a receptionist.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and positive team player. The candidate will need to have experience of working in an administrative setting. Excellent leadership skills and good communication skills are essential.
The post holder will be accountable for the administrative performance of this service as well as supporting the wider Directorate. The post holder will be responsible for implementing, coordinating and ensuring robust administrative processes exist across the Pre-Operative Assessment service, ensuring KPIs are met. The post holder will act as an interface between the clinical staff, management, admin staff, other staff within the Trust, external stakeholders and patients and their families / carers. The post holder must be able to organise their own workload within defined guidelines.
The successful applicant will be required to work a shift pattern that includes both 7:00am-3:00pm and 9:00am - 5:00pm shifts. This role will include administrative duties in the pre- operative assessment unit and in 3 west elective admissions, supporting smooth patient flow and service delivery across both areas.
Main duties of the job
- Act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, greeting them professionally and providing information about clinic procedures.
- Manage incoming calls, schedule and reschedule appointments, and provide relevant information to patients regarding their pre-assessment appointments.
- Checking in and out all POA appointments.
- Ensure patients' details are correctly recorded and updated in the hospital system, including personal details, medical history, and appointment status.
- Assist patients with any queries regarding pre-assessment processes and provide general administrative support.
- Provide a welcoming and empathetic environment, ensuring that patients feel supported throughout their pre-assessment journey.
- Establishing, maintaining and monitoring excellent office and information systems.
- Ensuring quality and customer care standards are met where relevant.
- Contribution to positive patient experiences.
- Supporting Nurses in patient information retrievals.
