We have an opportunity for an experienced and motivated band 7 Bladder Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), this new role will focus on facilitating and supporting the pathways for patients referred externally with muscle invasive bladder cancer. This is a 10 month fixed term contract for internal and external candidates/as a secondment.
You will join our dynamic and friendly uro-oncology clinical Nurse Specialist team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust(ICHT) based at Charing Cross Hospital. Our department is full of opportunity for nurses who are looking to expand their skills, get involved in quality improvement and collaborate with leading surgical and oncology teams
ICHT is a urological cancer centre, providing diagnostics as well as state of the art treatments. We are looking for a dynamic experienced CNS with good communication skills who has an interest in developing their CNS skills or extending their current portfolio of skills and abilities. You need to be able to prioritise your workload and assist us in meeting NHS Cancer waiting times and RMP targets whilst maintaining the patient experience and supporting them and their families living with and beyond cancer.
You must be an experienced Uro-Oncology nurse, able to work autonomously as well as with the wider Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) having experience of looking after patients with urological cancers as well as proven excellent time management and communication skills. Experience in running nurse led clinics would be desirable although not essential.
Main duties of the job
- Provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to patients with bladder cancer.
- Facilitate high quality, personalized care to patients/clients and relatives/carer's, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets.
- Work collaboratively with the MDT at the Hillingdon Hospital, to facilitate a timely pathway for patients diagnosed with bladder cancer requiring treatment at the Charing Cross
- At all times ensure that the needs of the patients are placed at the centre of care delivery. Where appropriate acting as a 'key worker'.
- Work to improve the patient experience throughout the patient journey.
- Deputise for their line manager in designated tasks relevant to the development of role/clinical specialty.
- Act as professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
- To work with senior members of the team and contribute to the development of the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives.
