About the Role:As the Head of Estates Operations, you will play a pivotal role, working full-time on site and reporting to the Head of Estates. Your extensive experience in providing tactical and operational leadership in an estates maintenance setting, preferably within a healthcare environment, will set you apart. Main duties of the job

  • Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and management for the Estates Team, collaborating with senior managers within the Directorate to ensure continual monitoring, risk management, and review of estate maintenance and management services. This will be delivered via the Trust's maintenance contract partner to ensure a professional, high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient service that meets the demands of the organisation, its patients, and its staff.

Operational and Corporate Planning:Contribute to operational and corporate planning, ensuring targeted investment that maintains the estates infrastructure while a Government new hospital programme project is delivered over the next 10-15 years.

  • Project Development: Partner with Trust stakeholders and contract delivery partners to develop project schemes, manage procurement processes, and ensure accountability for financial performance, project timelines, quality delivery, and the development of business cases.
  • Qualifications and Skills:

  • Hold appropriate higher-level education in Estates and/or Facilities Management, with demonstrable evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • Extensive experience in estates maintenance or construction within the NHS, healthcare, or a related sector.
  • Excellent financial acumen and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.

  • Extensive senior management experience in leading large multi-disciplined Estates teams in complex organisations, delivering quality multifaceted services.
  • Exceptional level of experience and practical knowledge in the field of coordinating large complex organisational change projects covering service changes, mergers, re-structuring, and modernisation involving many disciplines.
  • Dealing with complicated NHS employment issues (disciplinary hearings, grievances, dismissals, redundancies, appeals), TUPE transfers, restructures, and organisational change.
  • Developing tender bids, presentation, and mobilisation of Estates services, demonstrating commercial acumen and experience of business and financial planning including analysis and cost profiling.
  • Setting, managing and successfully delivering to forecast revenue budgets and achieving large cost improvement programmes.
  • Extensive experience of managing Estates Hard FM services contracts (auditing, monitoring, life cycle costing, payment mechanisms, variations etc.) in relation to SLA arrangements and all associated technical and commercial contracts
  • Successful track record of working in large and small high performing teams delivering challenging targets, KPIs and achieving results
  • Experience of inter-professional, inter-agency, and cross boundary working with external organisations including Department of Health, NHS Estates, NHS Property Services & Community Health Partnerships, City & County Councils, Greater East Midlands
  • Demonstrable significant experience at a senior level in building services management
  • Substantial experience in the management of change
  • Experience in the management of a high quality, responsive and cost-effective estates service with specific customer focus.
