Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse to work at Imperial College Healthcare Renal and Transplant Centre (ICHRTC). The centre is one the largest facility of its kind in Europe. With 4 inpatient wards totalling 65 beds and a programmed investigation unit offering a day case service of 18 beds. You will be working on De Wardener Ward which is a 9 bedded high dependency unit caring for acutely unwell patients. The Unit is a hybrid ward that also specialises in care for renal patients who requires intensive monitoring with highly complex needs. This includes patients who have had a kidney or a kidney and pancreas transplant and patients who require non-invasive ventilator support such as CPAP, BiPAP and High flow oxygen and/or tracheostomy care, some patients may need inotropic support. In addition we have further patients who are CAPD and APD in patients who are unable to self-care. You will be working alongside renal consultants, surgeons and other allied health care professionals. We will support you to develop advanced assessment and management skills of highly complex acutely unwell patients that will provide a strong foundation to your nursing career.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision
  • To assist the ward manager in leading the nursing team and deputise in their absence
  • Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them
  • To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
