Job summary
We have an exciting and rare opportunity to be a part of the experienced legal team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust The role will involve taking on a varied caseload in a very busy but friendly department, working to tight deadlines. This post represents an excellent opportunity for a professional with a passion for high quality (and occasionally high profile) medico-legal work. The post holder will provide professional support for Trust claims and inquest work aswell as assisting under supervision with advisory and Court of Protection matters.
Main duties of the job
- To provide an effective claims management and inquest service for the Trustincluding clinical negligence; employer and public liability matters.
oResponsibility for complying with disclosure and obtaining witnessstatements from relevant Trust staff in relations to inquests or claims.
oNotify and report to the Head of Quality and Compliance/ Claims and Inquest Manager any claims trends or issues relating to clinical processes or staff conductarising out of any claims or inquests.
o To assist with advising on general healthcare law, support with Court of Protection applications and other clinical legal issues.
oTo assist with the preparation of reports, databases, management of internal case management systems and delivery of internal training sessions.

Essential
- Educated to degree level in law or ability to evidence a thorough understanding of the clinical negligence claims process, gained either in an NHS legal department or private practice environment.
- Postgraduate qualification in legal practice or equivalent experience and knowledge in inquest management, including attending Coroners hearings, clinical negligence/personal injury.
Desirable
- Membership of ILEX or SRA and Law Society.
- Clinical Risk & Claims Management Diploma
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of managing or assisting a Solicitor with a caseload of inquests and/ or claims and experience of assisting with advising on general health care law.
- Demonstrable evidence of investigating a high volume caseload of clinical negligence, personal injury and public liability claims and or inquests
- Preliminary Analysis Report writing
- Awareness of NHS Resolution guidelines
- Knowledge of Inquests/Coroner's Rules
