Job summary

As a member of the aseptics team you will be part of a team who works under the support of our Senior Technicians with activites such as compounding, stock management and preparing the environment for daily activities to commence. You will also be involved in helping to train staff such as our aseptic apprentices and junior staff in all aseptic practices as well as assisting the managers on daily duties. You will be working together with our Senior Technicians, Assistants, Aseptic apprentices and other junior staff to help develop their skills in this area, as well as making sure we continue to improve our aseptic services.

You will play a pivotal role, working in the aseptic unit within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospital sites.

Our two aseptic units are staffed by enthusiastic and committed teams delivering a high number of doses daily across both sites to various specialities, including our rapidly expanding BMT unit, and one of only three gestational trophoblastic disease centres nationwide.

Our Pharmacy team are a large department of over 300 staff working across St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. We are a leading Trust in research and clinical trials, enabling you to experience diverse and exciting opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the provision of a high quality, patient focused, aseptic service, to patients of the trust particularly with regard to provision of a chemotherapy compounding service.
  • To assist the senior technicians in the day to day running of the pharmacy aseptic service.Including the training of technicians, apprentices and assistants in the technical aspects of the service.
  • To help facilitate and support the efficient and cost effective use of medicines within the aseptic unit.

Essential

  • Completed training as a pharmacy technician, pharmacist in native country or knowledge equivalent to NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services

Desirable

  • Registered Technician with the GPhC
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC

Experience

  • Experience of working in a pharmacy, this must include experience of compounding in aseptic services and the dispensing of prescriptions
  • Previous proven training experience in training others
  • Experience of pharmacy computer system(s)

Desirable

  • A solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice
  • Supervisory experience
