Job summary

The post is based in the Imperial College Children's Blood and Marrow unit at St Mary's Hospital, which is a leading centre for blood and marrow transplantation in non-malignant haematological disorders. The Trust Fellowship provides exposure to all aspects of paediatric haematology and transplantation while allowing significant time for to gain experience in performing clinical procedures, audits, gain leadership experience according to the applicant's needs. The post will be for one year, but may be extended for a further year. The fellowship is suitable for post-CCT haematology or paediatric trainees or paediatric/haematology trainees in the earlier stages of their training who have completed MRCPCH or equivalent), who are looking to gain expertise in paediatric haematology alongside gaining experience in a related aspect such as research, procedures or management.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will take responsibility for the day to day management of all paediatric haematology patients, including those undergoing a stem cell transplant and their donors, complex haemoglobinopathy patients, patients with bone marrow failure, shared care oncology patients and patients with immune cytopenias.

The post-holder will share in the day to day to day management of all Paediatric Haematology inpatients, day-care review patients, performing procedures such as bone marrow examination and bone marrow harvests (after training and with supervision). This post does not offer specific laboratory haematology training but appointees who have an interest in haematology are actively encouraged to attend laboratory meetings, weekly morphology teaching and courses.
