Job summary

To facilitate and promote clinical audit and clinical effectiveness within Maternity Services that align to local and national safety programmes, which will include the undertaking of identified priority clinical audits and raising awareness of clinical effectiveness and evidence based practice.

The post holder will also support and inspire others to meet the demanding needs of the clinical audit and effectiveness agenda. This will include monitoring implementation of the Directorate's annual clinical audit programme, ensuring learning from clinical audit maintains and improves the quality of patient care and is communicated effectively and acted upon at service level.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide guidance and support for the trust-wide clinical audit and effectiveness programme, working with clinicians and other healthcare staff in the design, promotion, and implementation and reporting of effective clinical audit.
  • Support the work of the senior management team, taking an active role in annual clinical audit planning.
  • Contribute to development of annual clinical audit plans for across the Trust.
  • Plan the audit approach and assignments, taking account of relevant policies, procedures and protocols in planning and delivering the audit work. Ensure effective, risk-based processes and guidance are followed.
  • Prepare reports and present findings to client management, groups, workshops, committees and audit committees. Ensure that reports of the work carried out deliver against the agreed objectives; and meet mandatory requirements and best practice guidance. Ensure reports give a clear view of the service provided and highlight issues for the attention of senior management.
  • Line-manage and supervise support staff as is required.
