Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist pharmacist to work with the ophthalmology directorate based at the Western Eye Hospital (WEH) and Charing Cross Hospital. The department sees over 5,000 outpatients a month and provides a tertiary referral service for West London. There is an emergency ophthalmology department which offers a 24 hour emergency service, 7 days a week to the local population and for complex referred emergency work. The WEH emergency ophthalmology team are part of the Imperial Major Trauma centre.
There is an increased demand for eye care nationally. Ophthalmology has emerging new medicines technologies making this a superb opportunity for a specialist pharmacist interested in Ophthalmology and Surgery.
You will be part of the Imperial Pharmacy trust mission to deliver better patient outcomes, enhance medication & patient safety, maximise productivity and deliver value for money, through a commitment to clinical and operational excellence and by embracing research, technology and innovation.

Main duties of the job
- Provide a patient focused clinical pharmacy service to ophthalmology and surgery specialties.
- Integrate into the surgical pharmacy and ophthalmology teams
- Develop role as a specialist pharmacist in ophthalmology, support the WEH dispensary operationally and clinically
- Participate in medicines management including managing stock inventories as per service need
- Input into the procurement of specialist medicines used in ophthalmology
- Provide clinical pharmacy, departmental and ward based services
- Provide education and training.
