Job summary

This is a locum post for 6PAs Consultant Clinical Biochemist in Metabolic Medicine, initially for one month. The interview will be held on 30th September 2024-Shortlisted Candidates will be informed on Friday 27th September.

This post is based at Charing Cross, with MDT and on-call activity across all 5 Northwest London Pathology (NWLP) sites. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will participate in providing and developing essential clinical biochemistry services, including point-of-care devices, clinical advice and reviews, laboratory liaison work, authorisation of results, and liaison with other clinical services (ICU, medical and surgical teams).

The post holder will work on a 1:4 rotation with other Metabolic Medicine consultants based on the Charing Cross site, to provide laboratory out-of-hours cover.

The new consultant will join a team of 3 other consultants in Metabolic Medicine who work across all trust sites. The department provides training for specialist trainees in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine and has a history of promoting academic achievement through links with Imperial College.

Main duties of the job

For a part-time contract: - A total of 6 PA's.

0.5 PA's is paid to provide second line on call support to SpRs on Nights and weekends.

Clinical Activities: 4.5 PA's per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1.0 PA's per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD)

The new consultant is expected to have a special interest in Diabetes, Obesity and Lipids. An interest in obesity research is welcomed.

They will be expected to medically lead the Clinical Biochemistry Molecular Service.

This replacement post is primarily based at Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals, with MDT and on-call activity across all 5 Northwest London Pathology (NWLP) hospital sites. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will participate in providing and developing essential clinical biochemistry services, including point-of-care devices, clinical advice and reviews, laboratory liaison work, authorisation of results, and liaison with other clinical services (ICU, medical and surgical teams).

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
  • MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification
