Job summary
Manvers ward and Manvers ARU is 35 bedded acute respiratory ward providing care for patients requiring level 1a and including 8 level 2 beds for critically unwell patients requiring noninvasive ventilation. The unit is the biggest bed based within the footprint of medicine and made up of an establishment 67 WTE. The matron plays an important and crucial role in providing clinical and managerial leadership to ensure high quality of care to patients.
This role is required to support the demands of the acute respiratory pathway services at St Mary's Site. Appropriate level of leadership is required to provide and ensure the continuous provision of high quality, safe, responsive and effective care through practice and policy development; improvements to the patient experience and MDT working. This role is key to fostering and developing strong collaborative working relations both internally and externally and which plays a vital role in maintaining flow and capacity on the site.
As a highly visible role, the post provides a high level of support to the ward manager, staff and clinical team working in Manvers and Manvers Acute Respiratory Unit in terms of people and organizational development i.e. recruitment strategy, performance management, staff development and so on.
Main duties of the job
This job description is for 8a Matrons who are responsible for wards that have;
High acuity
Multi patient pathways
OR
Manages another ward where there is a band 7 (this will include winter flexi wards).
To oversee the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.
As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral and discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care.
Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trust's evidence based procedural documents.
To have local open and transparent communication channels that support the ward team to do the right thing for people we care for, to be bold when they have good ideas and to speak up when things go wrong.
Act as a clinical expert within sphere of work.
Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff.
Ensure staffing is in line with Trust policy.
Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively.
Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area.
