Job summary
Applications are invited for a substantive full-time (1.0 WTE) interventional radiology (IR) Consultant.
The appointment offers an opportunity to strengthen an established team which will eventually consist of fourteen interventional radiologists across the three imperial sites.
The successful candidate will have completed formal training in diagnostic and interventional radiology. The candidate should be able to perform a wide range endovascular procedures including peripheral arterial and venous interventions and endovascular aortic repair to support the current service demand at St Mary's Hospital. In addition the successful candidate will require experience in Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.
The appointee is also expected to support and participate in general departmental objectives which will involve a contribution to the general reporting activity of the department (cross-sectional imaging, ultrasound and plain films).
Rapid access to imaging and scan turnaround times, whilst delivering a safe and high quality service are key priorities.
A further key objective of the directorate is to provide robust radiology trainee supervision and it is anticipated that the post holder will make an active contribution to this.
The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology and be on the GMC Speciality Register or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT.
Main duties of the job
The post will allow for improved IR resilience particularly at the SMH site which will enhance service delivery and thereby reduce waiting times for the vascular service at SMH and enhance provision of trauma and emergency vascular care.
The appointee will be expected to be a key liaison between IR and vascular surgery, participating in the Vascular MDT and taking part in the discussion, planning and scheduling of complex vascular cases.
The post holder will also be required to join an on-call rota for out of hours emergencies.
Assistance to the overall radiology team in the delivery of the cross-site "duty" rota which is in place to support rapid IP/ED reporting performance and trainee supervision.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the general reporting work in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to training and research, as well as to work with the Divisional team to help manage the service

Vascular: aortic, peripheral arterial and venous interventions including EVARs and TEVARs.
Non-vascular: Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.
The candidate will require experience in embolization to support the on-call service (e.g. uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage, GI bleeding, trauma embolization etc.).
An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged in accordance with the strategic aims of the Academic Health Sciences Centre.
