Job summary
Autonomous Practice: The ANP will independently assess patients, devise, and implement care plans across multiple acute settings, elective clinical environments and surgical assessment unit within the Trust. Advanced Clinical Skills: The role requires the ANPs to utilize advanced clinical skills, including physical assessment, prescribing medications and making complex clinical decisions. Independent Patient Management: The ANP will manage complex patient cases, often working alone, ensuring the continuation of high-quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be a member of the surgical team and assist the multidisciplinary team in the care of all inpatients by undertaking advanced patient assessment, intervention and treatment for patients. The post holder will work across divisional and professional boundaries, encouraging inter-disciplinary working for the benefit of improved patient outcomes and efficient use of resources. They will demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise, providing specialist advice, education and support to other health care professionals and patients. The post holder will be a non-medical independent prescriber (or working towards) and will take over roles previously undertaken by junior medical staff.
- The post holder will be working within the Academic Surgical Unit within the Surgery, Cancer and Cardiovascular Division. The general surgery department is divided into the Upper and Lower GI teams. Both teams provide cover for the emergency general surgery and trauma oncalls as well as providing colorectal, oesophagogastric and bariatric surgical services. It is expected that the post holder will be an integral member of the clinical team and be able to interact with doctors, CNS, ward staff and allied health professionals that provide the care for all general surgical patients.
