A unique opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacist to join our welcoming Surgical Pharmacy team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT).
As a Lead Pharmacist for Vascular Surgery, you will be part of a team that delivers high quality pharmacy services to a wide range of elective and emergency surgery specialties across St Mary's hospital, Charing Cross hospital and Hammersmith hospital. You will play a fundamental role in supporting and leading in the expertise for vascular medicine and surgery.
As a lead pharmacist, you will be expected provide a clinical service to the inpatients within the vascular unit, which will involve medicines optimisation within a complex co-morbid population. You will also be expected to attend multidisplinary board and ward rounds to provide your pharmaceutical expertise. We are dedicated to ensuring that medicines optimisation is embedded across all aspects of care within the Trust to deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective use of medicines.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a high-quality, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to adult Vascular Surgery and surgical patients
- To participate in medicines management initiatives to adult Vascular Surgery and surgical patients within the Trust
- To provide clinical pharmacy, departmental and ward based services in line with Trust procedures and national legislation
- To provide training and support to pharmacy, nursing and medical staff as required
- To deputise and provide support to the Senior Lead Pharmacist, Surgery as required
- To develop junior pharmacists within surgery by providing them with a structured education and training based ward programme
- Review and report on medicines expenditure for Vascular Surgery and other surgical specialties and identify, implement and track cost allied improvement schemes
- To ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to patient needs

- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification
- Undertakes continuing professional development (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio

- Non-Medical Prescriber (or willing to achieve qualification upon attainment of post)
Experience

- Appropriate post-registration training and experience in hospital Pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice
- Previous relevant specialist clinical experience e.g. in surgery and intensive care
- Practical clinical experience
- Experience in the development of clinical guidelines/protocols
Desirable
- Experience of working in surgical, high dependency wards
