Job summary

This one-year post-CCT fellowship in Head and Neck imaging is based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the biggest Head and Neck cancer and Thyroid cancer units in the UK. The post holder will work at the three main hospital sites in the Trust; St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. The job has been created due to expansion of the service. The appointment offers an opportunity to join a team consisting of four Consultant Head and Neck Radiologists, with sessional support from other members of the radiology/ neuroradiology team. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust also provides skull base, otology, rhinology, paediatric ENT, ophthalmology and major trauma level services and as such is home to multiple subspecialist clinicians and has a large Radiology Department. As well as learning about all aspects of head and neck imaging, the successful candidate would have opportunities to participate in ongoing research, audit and quality improvement projects within the team and contribute to the Fellow provision of general acute and inpatient work within the department.

Main duties of the job

The fellow post will involve 6-7 sessions of subspecialist head and neck imaging. They will receive formal training in Head and Neck cross-sectional radiology, including CT and MR, and ultrasound, including fine needle aspiration and biopsy procedures. Ethanol ablation of benign thyroid cysts will also be carried out at Imperial in the near future. They may have the opportunity to run and manage their own ultrasound lists following a period of observation. The fellow will also receive training in diagnostic sialography, and image-guided salivary intervention, dacryocystograms.

The fellow will be expected to actively participate in the preparation and presentation of cases at the regional head and neck and thyroid cancer MDTs.

St Mary's Hospital is a major trauma centre and the fellow will gain experience in general as well as head and neck trauma. The appointee will contribute to the general reporting work in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs during 2-3 clinical sessions per week and participate in the Fellow on-call rota (not including night shifts).
