Job summary
The Imperial Orthopaedic Education Fellowship is aimed at a junior registrar who is post-MRCS and wants to gain experience at registrar-level in Trauma & Orthopaedics. Senior SHOs who just missed out on a ST3 national training number this year will also be considered. It offers an opportunity to develop an interest in teaching whilst broadening clinical and research experience.
The post will be based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust where the post holder will have the opportunity to learn techniques of complex trauma management at one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in the UK. The successful candidate will also gain exposure to elective orthopaedics at the regional Major Revision Centre at Charing Cross Hospital.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination, organisation and delivery of the postgraduate T&O teaching programme at FY, CT and SpR level.
As part of their professional development, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to be enrolled on the University of Bath's "MSc in Football Medicine in association with FIFA". This is a part-time distance-learning course beginning in September 2024 and spread over three years. Enrolment will be within the tenure of the Education Fellowship (autumn 2024) but the completion of the MSc is not expected within the year. The course fees for the first year will be paid for by the T&O department.
The post is available from early August 2024 and is for 12 months.
Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities:
- 6 clinical sessions per week (upper limb trauma, lower limb recon / sports / paediatric)
- outpatient clinics, inpatient cover and trauma / elective operating lists
- operating lists include both supervised trauma theatre cover at St Mary's and elective lists at Charing Cross
- there will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the successful candidate's preferences and interests
- 4 protected, ring-fenced, non-clinical sessions per week. This includes:
- Organising departmental teaching of FY, SHO and SpRs
- Running the annual Imperial FRCS revision course
- MSc in Football Medicine in association with FIFA (optional)
- MRCS or equivalent
- Completion of Core Surgical Training or equivalent
- Qualified medical doctor with full unrestricted registration with the General Medical Council
- Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery degree
- Candidates are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfill the job requirements
