This job is now closed

Job summary

The post is based at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea hospital (QCCH) a world leading tertiary obstetric unit and St Marys hospital (SMH) working alongside the well-established Imperial prematurity clinic and March of Dimes international preterm research centre. The fellowship will combine clinical exposure to the management of twin pregnancies and the prevention of preterm birth with ample time for audit, quality improvement and research projects. The fellowship is suitable for Obstetric and Gynaecology trainees who have completed ST4/5 and have the necessary experience to participate in the senior registrar rota at QCCH who are looking to gain experience in obstetric ultrasound, preterm birth prevention, twin pregnancy and research.

Main duties of the job

This is a 1 year post as senior clinical fellow in twin pregnancy. You will be part of the senior registrar out of hour on call component at registrar level involving full on call for both obstetrics and gynecology to participate in a 1 in 10 on call rota. The hospital is covered at night by an obstetric consultant (resident until 11pm then from home thereafter), a non resident Gynaecology consultant, a Senior Registrar (Specialist trainee 6/7), Registrar (Specialist Trainee 3-5) and SHOs (Specialist trainee 1/2). You will also be expected to provide 1 day per week of clinical service provision on labour ward, MDAU, ANC etc.

The main focus of the job will be to setup and run cervical length surveillance clinics for twin pregnancies at QCCH and SMH, identifying those patients that may benefit from intervention in the form of progesterone pessaries or cervical cerclage. You will not be expected to perform the cerclages but close liason with the preterm birth leads at SMH and QCCH for organising cerclages will be necessary. Training in measuring cervical length will be provided within the preterm birth prevention clinic at the beginning of the post.

Other responsibilities of the role include auditing twin outcomes at QCCH and SMH and applying for clinical ethics to store clinical data for research purposes for all twin pregnancies seen in the clinic.
