Job summary

Charing Cross Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, is seeking to appoint a Senior Registrar in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join our Certificate of Eligibility of

Specialist Registration (CESR) programme which has a proven track record of success. You will be able to lead our Emergency Department as a Senior Decision Maker (SDM) with Consultant support at all times. This is a very exciting opportunity for an Emergency Medicine specialist who wishes to complete their Higher Training at one of the largest the largest education, training and research centres nationally. We would expect you to apply for consultant posts following completion of your training with Imperial.

Main duties of the job

The clinical commitment comprises a full shift pattern, including out-of-hours work.

The postholder should be of registrar grade or equivalent and fully registered with the GMC. The post is suitable as a stand-alone experience and candidates holding a national training number looking for an out-of-programme experience (OOPE) are encouraged to apply. In addition to the protected non-clinical time the postholder will work a full shift pattern including early, late and night shifts providing 24-hour cover with a 1 in 4 weekend commitment supported by ED consultants directly (0800-2400) and remotely (0000-0800) and a 24-hour consultant delivered trauma service. The shift pattern is new deal compliant with a 1A banding (subject to change to comply with new working practices).

The postholder will be allocated a consultant clinical and educational supervisor and opportunities to complete work-based assessments, audit, quality improvement projects and partake in research. The department delivers a full teaching programme and monthly ED governance meetings.

There will also be regular opportunities to complete Educational Development Time (EDT) in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. You should already have completed your Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (MRCEM) and will be well supported to achieve your Fellowship (FRCEM) by examination. We would also expect you to have provider status for Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS). In addition to this, Imperial College offers bespoke Medical Leadership courses (Aspire and Frontier) for its senior clinicians which we will encourage you to participate in. This is a one year post at Charing Cross Hospital but with the possibility to extend to a second year at St Marys Hospital to gain experience working at a Major Trauma Centre.
