Job summary
As a health care assistant, you will be:
- Working as part of a team of staff providing clinical support to outpatient clinics under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
- Ensuring that all the assigned clinical areas are tidy and ordered at all times and maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the environment.
- Facilitating the operation of the outpatient clinics by managing the flow of patients through clinics maintain the hygiene, cleanliness and orderliness of the clinic environment.
- Making sure that all necessary information is available for clinics to operate effectively and to record clinical activity and outcomes using the appropriate hospital system.
- Carrying out care tasks (patients' clinical observations) delegated from professionally qualified staff, appropriate within clear guidelines and to supervise less experienced staff in the clinical areas, ensuring patient focused care is delivered.
Main duties of the job
- Utilise advanced communication skills to greet the patient, in a friendly and professional manner, when they arrive at reception.
- Introduce yourself to new arrivals and explain your part in their journey.
- Where appropriate use the patients name when talking to them, maintain eye contact and smile.
- Put patient care and attentions first at all times and regularly ask 'what else can I do to help?' Always explore the customer care knowledge and skills.
- Proficiency in the phlebotomy procedures is essential for this role.
- Keep patients informed at every stage of their journey, providing explanation, advice and support where appropriate, escalating more complex queries to senior colleagues.
