Job summary
We are looking for a recognised clinical leader who has evidenced leadership and managerial skills. They will be pivotal to the improvements required in the Trust perioperative pathway.
We are looking for a leader who can manage, inspire and nurture a clinical team on a consistent and sustainable basis evidencing all the Trust values (Kind, Expert, Collaborative and Aspirational). The post holder will work to manage and lead the team within the elective admissions unit at Charing Cross Hospital and lead perioperative care across other ICHT sites.
Perioperative care, which includes pre-assessment services, has been given a clear focus by the national elective recovery team and NHS England. Perioperative care is also one of the top 5 work streams aligned to the Trustwide Theatre Oversight Improvement Board. As such, the Trust recognises the importance of having clear evidence based perioperative pathways which support safe, high quality care, and drive improvement. In turn, these will help to support a reduction in elective and cancer surgery backlogs.
The post holder will act as a clinical lead for the pre-assessment pathway. They will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders that include operational leads and anaesthetic clinical leads to deliver operational excellence across the service.
Main duties of the job
This position is integral to the Theatres, Anaesthetics, Pain and Preassessment (TAPP) service in providing clinical, managerial and teaching expertise to a multidisciplinary team.
We are looking for someone to provide aspirational leadership in preassessment across the ICHT sites. Essential to the role is support and mentorship of more junior members of the team, the provision of learning and development to maximise preassessment and perioperative focussed skills and partaking in regular audit and service development.
As a well reputed organisation, we expect the provision of high quality care from the post holder. This in turn will drive through continuous improvement within the perioperative pathway and the care offered by this service. We envision this will help to impact the elective and cancer surgery backlog while maintaining safe and effective care.
The post holder will need to ensure perioperative pathways address clinical and cost effectiveness of the service including on the day cancellations and improving utilisation within theatres by leading the team to develop a perioperative /pre-assessment scorecard to measure performance.
