Job summary
This post is based within the respiratory team at ICHNT and aims primarily to support the lung cancer service as well as general respiratory and GIM.
We diagnose approximately 280 new cases of lung cancer a year at ICHT, as well as being a tertiary referral center for oncology and cardiothoracic surgery. Our performance/outcome measures are reliably above national standards and amongst the best in our local alliance. The service is run in line with the NOLCP pathway and we reliably meet our 28 day FDS. We have excellent 62 day treatment target rates and are working towards aiming for a 49 day pathway. We run a robust and well recognized nodule service.
The post-holder will contribute to the bronchoscopy service at ICHNT and there is the opportunity to work with the pleural team, Led by Dr Ross. Candidates with appropriate skills or who wish to develop these skills are very welcome to join these services.
ICHNT is one of the largest education, training and research centers nationally; it is the clinical partner of the Imperial Academic Health Science Centre. All our staff are actively encouraged to become involved with education and/or research, in addition to their clinical role. There is annual review of job plans, with potential educational or research PAs available for dedicated education, training or research time.
Main duties of the job
This is a locum post created to meet the anticipated demand in increased activity linked with the rolling out of the North West London Lung Cancer Screening Program. The post-holder will contribute to the lung cancer services across Imperial, including St Mary's Hospital (SMH) and Charing Cross hospital (CXH) site. In addition, they will further develop pleural services on the Hammersmith Hospital (HH) site, supported by the cross-site pleural lead.
The service is currently led by Dr. Susy Bloch, with Dr. Clare Ross, Dr Rudy Sinharay, Dr Carl Reynolds, Professor Frances Bowen and a pleural fellow.
The post-holder will also contribute to the acute medical take at SMH and provide respiratory outreach to the short stay unit there.
This post therefore represents an opportunity to deliver excellent care to patients with respiratory disease, lung cancer and pleural disease, in a specialist centre, supported by well-established multi-disciplinary teams and would be suitable for both a post-CCT candidate looking to develop as a consultant in a supportive team in a large organisation.
There is a need for increased support for education to trainees and to support the pleural team in providing training to ward nursing staff and other departments. The further development of Pleural and Lung Cancer research and clinical trials in this post will be strongly supported.
