Role- Development role for Advanced Clinical Practitioner Glaucoma and Cataract practitioner
An exciting development Role has occurred within Ophthalmology. The Practitioner will assess treat and manage patients within the glaucoma and cataract service once fully trained.
You will have the opportunity to use your full slit lamp skills and your ophthalmic experience and knowledge to work with the team to ensure that the patients receive the care and comprehensive experience within our Department
This will be a one year Supernumery development role as a band 6 and once all skills have been achieved as per OPT framework the staff member will be upgraded to a band 7.
The staff member must have the following:
- Registered Nurse or Registered Orthoptist
- At least 2 years' experience working as a band 6 with an Ophthalmic Module/ registration and Degree
- Able to demonstrate evidence of OPT portfolio competencies achieved up-to-date.
- Committed to achieve OPT levels and e-portfolio route.

Main duties of the job
- Provide glaucoma and cataract specialist advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
- The advance practitioner will provide specialist care to the glaucoma and cataract service and support. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
- To provide specialist training and education to staff and patients.
- Set, monitor and evaluate standards of care in partnership with other members to ensure deliver of holistic and planning future developments with the ophthalmic team.
- To develop skills to assess and interpret specialist information and glaucoma and cataract diagnosis and takes appropriate action based on protocols.
- Undertakes clinical procedures that require dexterity and accuracy. Including Slit-lamp skills examination, fundoscopy, gonioscopy and biometry.
- Undertakes prescribing within the sphere Patient group Prescribers/ Non-medical prescriber.
- To work as a member of the multidisciplinary in the glaucoma team caring for patients with glaucoma conditions.
- The role will encompass the care and management of patients throughout all parts of Imperial Ophthalmology service, but will mainly be based at Western Eye Hospita

- Degree in Nursing Orthoptics or equivalent qualification.
- Accredited ophthalmic qualification or equivalent
- Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience

- Master's Degree in related subject or equivalent
- Post registration experience in a relevant area with experience of change management.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES

- Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
