Job summary

Applications are invited for a substantive, full-time (1.0 WTE) Interventional Radiology (IR) Consultant.

The appointment offers an opportunity to strengthen an established IR team which will eventually consist of fourteen interventional radiologists. The post- holder will be working cross-site.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in diagnostic and interventional radiology and will have experience in the following techniques: general vascular and endovascular procedures, reno-vascular interventions including dialysis access, Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.

The candidate will require experience in embolization to support the on-call service (e.g, GI bleeding, trauma embolization, uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage etc.).

The candidate should be able to perform peripheral arterial and venous interventions including to support the current service demand at St Mary's Hospital.

The appointee is also expected to support and participate in general departmental objectives which will involve a contribution to the general reporting activity of the department (cross-sectional imaging, ultrasound and plain films).

Rapid access to imaging and scan turnaround times, whilst delivering a safe and high quality service are key priorities.

A further key objective of the directorate is to provide robust radiology trainee supervision and it is anticipated that the post holder will make an active contribution to this.

Main duties of the job

The post will allow for improved IR service resilience which will enhance service delivery thereby reducing waiting times for the renal vascular service at HH, cancer services on both sites and the urology service at CXH.

There is an expansion of the small tumour ablation service which is being developed across all sites with an opportunity to be involved in the ablation service. This will improve waiting times for treatment of small cancers, improve 18 week RTT performance and so the quality of patient care. This is also a Cancer Services priority.

Assistance to the overall radiology team in the delivery of the cross-site "duty" rota which is in place to support rapid IP/ED reporting performance and trainee supervision.

The post will be split between Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals with some flexible working at St Mary's Hospital as required. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the general reporting work in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs. The post holder will also be required to join an on-call rota for out of hour's emergencies.

The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to training and research, as well as to work with the Divisional team to help manage the service.

The post holder will also be required to join an on-call rota for out of hour's emergencies.

The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology and be on the GMC Speciality Register or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT
