Job summary
We are looking for a diagnostic physicist with extensive experience and a strong background in QA and radiation safety to work within the Radiological Sciences Unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHST. The successful candidate will join a team of 10 physicists delivering scientific and technical support services to ICHNT and a number of external organisations.
The successful candidate will act as the lead Medical Physics Expertfor specified areas of work as well as being involved in all other aspects of the section's work relating to diagnostic radiology and radiation protection.
RSU provides a broad range of clinical service support, teaching and research in all imaging modalities. The post holder is therefore expected to play a lead role in procurement, acceptance, commissioning and routine quality assurance on all types of diagnostic equipment. They are also expected to have some teaching background as they will be supporting STP training and lecturing at MSc level.
Applicants must be HCPC registered with significant experience in diagnostic radiology physics and able to fulfill the role of MPE in Diagnostic Radiology by having an MPE Certificate of Competence (RPA2000). Applicants without certification should be in a position to submit a portfolio within 3 months. Applicants with less experience but the right qualities may be considered for appointment at a lower level until MPE certification is gained.
Main duties of the job
- Act as Radiological Physicist with regard to x-ray imaging modalities and to actively develop physics services for these modalities within the trust and SLA customers.
- Plan organise and provide annual QA, performance assessment, auditing and radiation protection related to radiological physics in support of diagnostic x-ray equipment in agreement with the Head of Radiological Physics and in line with the Head of the RSU. This requires high precision complex measurements, which could result in the restriction of clinical service.
- Fulfil the role of Medical Physics Expert for the Trust and key SLA customers.
- Carry out Critical Examination, Acceptance and Commissioning testing as delegated by RPA and troubleshooting of a large number of different complex x-ray imaging modalities, systems and associated software in the Trust and to SLA customers.
- Providing detailed reports on the results, making suggestions and giving advice or complex, highly specialised scientific information.
- Carry out environmental, staff and patient dose surveys as delegated by the RPA.
- Participate in procurement projects where appropriate.
- Provide highly specialised x-ray systems support and troubleshooting service to the Trust and for SLA customers.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of trainee Clinical Scientists and junior radiological physicists.
