Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the breast care unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (Charing Cross Hospital) as we are recruiting a second Clinical Nurse Specialist in metastatic/secondary breast cancer. The mission of the trust is to provide world class healthcare for our patients, through excellence in research, education and training. The breast service also contains the West of London Breast Screening Service.

As a department, we relish a challenge. We are looking for keen nurses to come and join our established team. You will be responsible for the care and support of people with metastatic/secondary breast cancer, and assist us by ensuring that the patients' experience reflects what the patient wants. You will also be pivotal in shaping and promoting the nursing vision and direction of the breast service.

The postholder will work within breast cancer team giving specialist information and support to those with secondary breast cancer and acting as Key Worker. You must be willing to undertake specialist courses at post graduate level.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to patients with, breast (metastatic) cancer and facilitate high quality, individualized care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets.
  • At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery. Where appropriate acting as a 'key worker'.
  • Work to improve the patient experience throughout the patient journey.
  • Deputise for their line manager in designated tasks relevant to the development of role/clinical specialty.
  • Act as professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
  • To work with senior members of the team and contribute to the development of the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives.
