Job summary
Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital (QCCH) is one of the oldest maternity hospitals in the UK and is internationally renowned for the care of women with complex medical and obstetric problems and is also a tertiary referral unit for foetal care. Specialist services include maternal medicine, maternity HDU, foetal medicine, prematurity including extreme preterm delivery and perinatal mental health. QCCH is also a designated centre for the management of abnormally invasive placenta. This post requires subspecialty interest, experience and training in obstetric anaesthesia.
The Hammersmith Hospital receives national and international referrals for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the anaesthetic service for some of our other surgical sub-specialities in the fields of renal transplant surgery, gynae-oncology, hepatobiliary, upper GI, IVF and endocrine surgery .
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be joining a small and dedicated team of obstetric anaesthetic consultants at QCCH and will be part of the 1:8 obstetric anaesthetic on call rota. This post will allow for consultant obstetric anaesthetic cover for 18/20 sessions per week. This will provide weekday daytime cover for labour ward and separate dedicated consultant cover for four all day elective Caesarean section lists with the intention to provide the full cover of five all day lists in the future.
In addition to anaesthetic services at QCCH the post holder will be expected to provide anaesthesia for some of the surgical specialities at the Hammersmith Hospital. The job plan will have some flexibility and formulated in partnership with the successful candidate.
