Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, compassionate and suitably experienced Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Pain Management Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

We are at a pivotal point in the transformation of our pain management service and we require an individual who is ready to join a professional, dynamic team and embrace change.

The suitable candidate will have a minimum of 5 years working as a Band 7 CNS in Pain Management together with non-medical prescribing certification. A Master's qualification in pain management or advanced clinical practice with an emphasis in pain would be ideal. However, we would consider a candidate who excelled in all other requirement who can provide commitment to undertake this study.

As a Senior CNS, you will work across the inpatient and outpatient settings to deliver acute and chronic pain management within the context of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team. The Pain Management Service is on course to re-establishing nurse-led services within our clinics and you will have the opportunity to be a part of this process.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for contributing towards the day to day operational delivery of the Pain Management Service and take responsibility for an agreed nurse-led caseload maintaining a professional approach at all times. This includes implementing and evaluating pain management initiatives, facilitating the provision of a seamless service and promoting quality, evidence-based care to patients in accordance with local and Trust policies.

Utilise your knowledge and skills to provide expert care to patients across three hospital sites (Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary's Hospital) and our Outpatient Pain Management Centre.

Referrals for specialist advice and management are received from many different specialties across all three hospital sites including general surgery, orthopaedics, major trauma, complex hepatobiliary surgery, complex cancer surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, renal transplant, neurosurgery, gynaecology and complex medical patients. You will attend regular multi-disciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of treatment plans for patients with complex pain. Experience of managing patients with complex conditions and chronic pain would therefore, be an advantage.
