Trust Grade Doctor (SHO level) in Acute Medicine

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trust Grade Doctor (SHO level) to join our Acute Internal Medicine team at St Mary's Hospital (SMH). The successful candidate will supplement the existing Acute Medicine Physicians, who work as part of a specialty firm-based structure. There is also close partnership working with the Emergency Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care teams.

This post is a highly valuable and clinically enriching non-training post. There is strong Consultant support to aid career progression and it is hoped that this will enable the successful candidate to apply for a Deanery training post in future, or take advantage of other advertised opportunities at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT).

The role is of a FY2, IMT 1 or 2 level trainee in Acute Medicine. The post holder will be expected to work across the Acute Medical wards, which comprise two fast-turnover wards and four acute side rooms. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be on the medical 'take' rota and clerk sick patients, as well as be on the cardiac arrest team. There is a strong consultant presence with twice-daily ward rounds and onsite consultant support.

For further information please contact Dr Azara Janmohamed, Head of Specialty for Acute Medicine at SMH (a.janmohamed@nhs.net).

Main duties of the job

The Acute Medicine service at SMH provides a consultant lead service for all patients admitted under Acute Medicine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are two main Acute Medicine inpatient wards that are co-located on the first floor of the main hospital building with 39 beds between them.

The post holder will be expected to attend daily consultant led ward rounds and then assist with general ward jobs. The post provides excellent short-term experience in acute and general internal medicine for those pursuing a career in a medical specialty. There will also be the opportunity to participate in the medical take and attend cardiac arrests.

There is a weekly department teaching meeting and weekly hospital Grand Rounds during academic term times, which the post holder will be expected to attend. There will also be ad-hoc teaching for individual students attached to the firm.
