Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Specialist Registrar in acute & general medicine at St Mary's Hospital. The post-holder will look after acute & general medical inpatients, take part in the general/acute medical on-call rota and participate in outpatient clinics. The post would be ideal for trainees with MRCP having completing CT2/IMT2 who would like to gain more experience as a general/acute medical registrar prior to applying for higher training in a medical specialty. Applications from candidates wishing to undertake less than 100% on-call commitments will be happily considered. The duration of the post will be for 9-12 months depending on the candidate's needs.
Main duties of the job
The post involves responsibility for in-patients under the care of the Acute firm (with responsibility only for Acute and General Medicine patients) under the direction of consultant physicians (one Clinical Pharmacologist, one Rheumatologist and four Elderly Medicine consultants). In addition to this post, the firm comprises a chief registrar (with additional management responsibilities), an ST1 (ACCS trainee), an FY2 and a FY1 doctor.
The post holder will work closely with other members of the team to ensure high quality acute and specialist medical services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams to:
- Support the SHO, FY1 and nurses on the unit with decision making
- Review new referrals and discuss these with the consultant
- Manage acute medical admissions
- Manage ambulatory care
- Partake in or lead ward rounds
- Support an acute medicine clinic
