Job summary

This is a fixed term one year post to cover the maternity leave.

Operating mainly from our Charing Cross site our equipment portfolio includes five TrueBeam Linacs, a Philips Brilliance CT scanner, (being replaced in 2023) and an Xstrahl unit; our Elekta Flexitron Brachytherapy unit is based at Hammersmith Hospital in a dedicated brachytherapy suite. Two of the TrueBeam have the ExacTrac system and 6DoF couches and one the Truebeams is equipped with SGRT. Our main TPS is Raystation and he service delivers SABR for a number of sites including lung and spine, with other SABR sites to be implemented in the next twelve months. The department provides stereotactic cranial radiotherapy (SRS), which is delivered on the TrueBeam STx and planned using the Brainlab Elements TPS.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for a role at a lower band.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide leadership and guidance to the treatment planning team within the radiotherapy department
  • Be recognised as a clinical expert in treatment planning, developing specialist clinical practice, giving expert advice and disseminating knowledge
  • To lead and develop core expertise within the team, using high level knowledge gained through experience within the specialism
  • To coordinate the training and development of staff within the treatment planning team and to monitor performance against quality and efficiency targets
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality, patient orientated radiotherapy services responding to changes in service needs and delivery

EDUCATION

Essential

  • DCR(T) or BSc in Therapy Radiography and registered with HCPC
  • Or Honours degree in a relevant subject (physics, clinical technology, radiography or engineering).
  • Eligible for registration as a Clinical Technologist on the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or AHCS

Desirable

  • Post graduate study in related specialist subjects.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Understands the risks associated with radiation and the optimisation of patients treatments
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of standard and non-standard complex and conformal techniques
  • Knowledge and ability to ensure compliance with quality system
  • Good communication skills

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience of which at least 2 must be at band 7 level.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in treatment planning
  • Experience of planning and reporting for trials
  • Experience of leading a team
