Job summary
The postholder will have opportunities to build on skills and experiences, will be part of a consultant supervised ward rounds and be supported in the transition into a more senior surgical role. They will be expected to attend the structured teaching programmes provided.
The post holder will participate in daily ward rounds of the in-patients. Ward work will be carried out with the on call SpR and an ANP team member. Scrub and be supervised and trained in theatres. Also, there is fantastic opportunity for research and quality projects. It is an ideal post for someone who needs to polish his/her CV to be ready for a run through training applications in surgery. The post holder is welcome to participate in the department locum shifts and the trust wide shifts.
This is a part time role (22.5 hours/3 days per week)

Main duties of the job
Whilst on duty the post holder has clinical and professional responsibility for their patients. It is also the duty of the post holder to:
- Keep patients (and/or their carers as appropriate) informed about their condition.
- Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council and comply in particular with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice'
Clinical responsibilities
- To provide medical care to patients as required ensuring that the appropriate standards of care are delivered through a multidisciplinary team.
- To maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that personal access to information systems issecure from others.
Professional responsibilities
- To maintain own professional registration through CPD as required by GMC and the medical
- To comply with professional codes of conduct as defined by the GMC
- To participate in clinical audit and research as agreed with Consultants
- To participate in the training of pre and post registration doctors and other healthcare professional as appropriate.
Cover Responsibilities
- The post holder will be expected to work part-time, 3 full days/week. The post holder will NOT participate in out of hs on call rota.
- So far as is consistent with proper discharge of the above duties the post holder will undertake to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
