Job summary
As the vascular access nurse specialist for the haemodialysis service you will provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers vascular access needs without supervision and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. This will be in line with local and national targets.
You will provide specialist nursing care and support to the vascular access service. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
You will be flexible in your approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for the dialysis service acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the dialysis head nurses, clinical lead for vascular access, surgical team and dialysis teams to support the vascular access pathway, weekly MDT meeting and support and deliver education to the teams.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and a significant part of this role will be liaising with the wider team across the service, including visiting satellite and onsite units to offer support.
The post holder will champion and coordinate the management of vascular access, up-skill the workforce, develop patient information and optimise patient experience. They will be directly responsible to and supported by the Dialysis lead nurse. They will work closely with the Vascular access clinical lead.
Being able to demonstrate evidence of leadership and/or team management and teaching is necessary as is the ability to identify and manage quality improvements to enhance the patient experience.
A relevant specialist course or appropriate equivalent experience in haemodialysis, with evidence of professional development and a teaching qualification is required.
The working week currently covers Monday to Friday. Flexibility is necessary to provide visibility across the dialysis service (in-centre, satellite, onsite home therapies training area). Being a car driver could be beneficial but is not essential.
