Job summary

Western Eye Hospital is a busy teaching hospital with Consultant Ophthalmologists who work across a range of sub specialties, such as glaucoma, medical retina, contact lenses, corneal and post-op cataract clinics. Our optometrists work across many of these clinics, supporting the ophthalmology department and as such, we are looking for an optometrist who will contribute to the development of the optometry services. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from our award-winning ophthalmology team as well as using their knowledge and skills to help train other health professionals.

This is a development role, ideally suited for a newly/recently qualified optometrist. It is designed to give the applicant all the training and support to develop into a more autonomous clinician. After 1yr of working at band 5 the role will be upgraded to band 6, providing the applicant has successfully completed certain competencies.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide optometric services as an optometrist practitioner. To assess, diagnose and manage patients within the hospital eye service at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. To work across a range of sub-specialties within Ophthalmology
  • Provide specialist advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives/carers with supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets
  • To assist in providing teaching and training to Multi health professional
  • Monitor and evaluate standards of care in partnership with other members to ensure deliver of holistic and planning future developments within the ophthalmic team.
