Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes applicants to apply for a Fellow post in Ophthalmology with special interest in Vitreo- Retinal at the Western Eye Hospital. This is a full time post within the Vitreo- Retinal service There may also be an opportunity to undertake sub-specialist work in negotiation with the successful candidate.

For a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance.

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and innovative person to join the ophthalmic service for the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre and the largest trust in the country.

Applicants must be currently or previously been working within the NHS, have MBBS or equivalent and at least 4 years training in ophthalmology and be fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will form part of the Ophthalmology team focused on the diagnosis and treatment of VR During their time in the Ophthalmology department, the post holder can expect to improve their clinical and surgical skills in VR Specifically.
  • The post holder will be expected to take an active role in managing patient pathways, this will include undertaking regular clinics and theatre lists.
  • The post holder will actively contribute to departmental education meetings.
  • The post holder will be expected to be part of the on call rota
  • The post holder will work across departments including outpatients, surgery and Emergency services.

  • IT Skills and computer literacy.
  • Ability to manage general, vitreo-retinal and emergency ophthalmic patients.
  • Experience in vitreo-retinal surgery.
  • Understanding of clinical governance.
  • Previous participation in audit.
