Job summary

We are recruiting for TWO diagnostic radiology posts with sub-speciality interests in genitourinary imaging to enhance the existing consultant team. One post will sub-specialise in Urological Imaging while the second will sub-specialise in Gynaecological imaging.

These are new posts, and will support sub-specialty teams as well as the departmental general workload. New faster diagnosis standards, turnaround times and GIRFT/NELA objectives as well as trainee supervision, scan checking and hot desk duties will form a part of both the job plans.

Posts will contribute to tertiary level MDT's in the specialities of Urological, Gynaecological Oncology, Gestational trophoblastic and germ cell tumour, Endometriosis and fibroid disease.

Sessions in acute reporting, general and subspecialist reporting, procedural lists (see below) and ultrasound (specialist and general) will be expected.

Main duties of the job

The exact duties of each post will be configured to the skill sets of the successful applicant and departmental needs

The post holders will increase the genitourinary imaging service capacity across the Trust's three main sites including specialist ultrasound, hysterosalpingography, urological fluoroscopy, CT and MR reporting. The post will include participation in the specialist MDTs on a rotational basis and the final MDT commitment will be agreed following appointment. Specific departmental services requiring support are:

  • Specialist pelvic ultrasound including transvaginal scanning
  • Hysterosalpingography
  • Urological fluoroscopic procedures covering urological cancer and trauma
  • Pre-biopsy multiparametric prostate MRI reporting
  • MDT contribution within Urology, Gynaecology, Gestational trophoblastic and germ cell tumour, endometriosis, benign GU imaging
  • Interventional ultrasound, to include biopsy and drainage procedures
  • Trauma and acute cross-sectional imaging and cancer follow up reporting

In addition to subspecialist programmed activities, the successful candidates will be expected to contribute 2 sessions specifically to the general work of the department, including duty "hot desk" reporting, general CT, MRI, US and plain radiographs. Part of this will take the form of an extended day performing a general US list or acute cross sectional reporting session.

The specific procedural activities and MDT mix is listed above and our aim is to enhance our services in all of these between the two appointees. Most consultants work on two or all three of the trusts main sites and the exact location of each programmed activity will be best suited for the clinical service being supported.

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department which includes the provision of 7-day consultant led reporting through scheduled but flexible weekend sessions and the provision of an extended 5-day consultant reporting service. Sharing ownership of providing a responsive and rapid imaging service to our referrers and patients is expected, and this includes support for allied health professionals in the department and availability for helping with day-to-day operational challenges.

An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged in accordance with the strategic aims of the Academic Health Sciences Centre.
