Consultant -Medical Oncology GTD, Gynae-oncology, AOS urology

This substantive post is to support the growing clinical commitments required to support the important National Gestational Trophoblastic (GTD) clinical service, and the expanding needs within the metastatic ovarian germ cell tumour service, urothelial (and renal cell) services following the recent significant expansion of treatment portfolios. It is expected this post will work closely within the GTD team and with Dr Sarwar to ensure collaborative support for busy outpatient services.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, in partnership with Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre, is a lead provider of cancer services in North West London. It hosts a National Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (Choriocarcinoma, GTD) Service, one of only 2 centres in England, with an international academic profile. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic progressive, expert, oncology team focused on delivering excellent cancer care to all our patients.

This post is ideal for a medical oncologist wanting an NHS based role. This is a cross-site role with flexibility within the SPA job plan to support individual professional interests such as education, research, and leadership/service development.

Main duties of the job

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has a unique, consultant led inpatient model of Acute Oncology Service (AOS) care to support emergency cancer treatment at the Trust, including an ambulatory assessment unit. The post will expand the consultant team from 5 to 6 consultants and be integral to the AOS team, working collaboratively to support pathways of cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Trust including malignancy of unknown primary/suspicion of cancer pathways. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with one Dr Sarwar, medical oncology consultant who currently holds a similar portfolio of AOS, GTD & urology, and will provide support and cross cover for these services.

This is a cross-site role (Charing Cross and St Mary's Hospital) with flexibility within the SPA job plan to support individual skills and interests such as education, research, and leadership/service development. All consultants are expected to deliver high quality safe clinical care and take part in the full range of consultant activities

The consultant will support 3 outpatient clinics weekly. The post holder will facilitate the developing portfolio of NCRN & commercial research. The post holder may wish to work with Imperial College Academics within the role, but this is an NHS, non-academic role

Another key part of this role will be to support the further development of Acute Oncology Services (AOS) at the Trust. We have a dedicated team of ANPs to support the service, which also is an Emergency Cancer Treatment Unit. The role will work within the dedicated team of six AOS consultants supporting emergency cancer care at the Trust and improve AOS services cross site by ensuring improved availability of consultants for AOS team support when on service.

The AOS role comprises 1 in 6 weeks of acute service for Charing Cross Hospital where the Consultant provides AOS leadership for the acute admitting unit, patients attending ED, and reviewing all new patients, with aim of admission avoidance and cancer symptom/toxicity management. Then there is a 1 in 6 week of AOS support for the St Marys hospital site this is providing support to a team of nurse practitioners who deliver care on this site. There is some outpatient activity and MDT working on this week.
