Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the friendly and committed team of Clinical Perfusionists at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in north-west London.

Perfusion training will be based at Hammersmith Hospital (clinical) and the University of Bristol (academic). The Perfusion training program is for a minimum of two years working towards the requirements to gain basic accreditation with the Society of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain and Ireland. Applicants will therefore need a minimum of an upper second honours degree 2:1 or equivalent in a science or medicine-related subject that is acceptable for entry into the MSc Perfusion Science programme at the University of Bristol in September 2023.

Approximately 500 adult cardiac surgical procedures are performed at Hammersmith Hospital annually, including mini bypass and minimally invasive procedures. We are one of three hospitals locally on a rotation covering an acute aortic dissection service. We operate a four-day working week with a 24/7 on-call service which also includes clinical support to the Trust's trauma service based at St. Mary's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will follow the departmental training program, protocols and procedures in order to be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of an accredited staff-grade Clinical Perfusion Scientist once training and accreditation exams are completed.

Register as a Trainee Perfusionist with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland.

Follow the current recognised MSc in Perfusion Science academic program, attend and complete the required coursework and examinations as deemed necessary in order to fulfil the academic criteria to take the Examination for the Certificate of Accreditation in Basic Clinical Perfusion Science.

Contribute to the delivery of clinical and professional perfusion services within the multidisciplinary team by performing cardiopulmonary bypass and other perfusion procedures, under appropriate supervision by qualified members of the perfusion team in order to fulfil the clinical criteria necessary to take the Examination for the Certificate of Accreditation in Basic Clinical Perfusion Science.

Maintain a good working relationship with members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Under the supervision of a qualified perfusionist, participate in the 24/7 on-call perfusion service rota.
