Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced gynaecology nurse trained in ultrasound scanning and the management of women attending for emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy complications. Our post is based at the Gynaecology Emergency Care Department at St Mary's Hospital and is part of our extensive and diverse gynaecology service. The department runs a seven day service from 9am to 8.30pm.

You will be expected to work independently and as part of a specialist emergency gynaecology team. You will be required to assess, scan and counsel women undergoing pregnancy loss as well as other gynaecological emergencies, participate in the training of junior staff and undertake or assist with procedures as well as patient examinations.

You will have:

  • Extensive experience working within a gynaecology or women's health setting.
  • A recognised ultrasound qualification in early pregnancy and gynaecology.
  • Insight into the condition and areas of management.
  • Personal qualities of kindness and compassion and the motivation to provide high quality, woman-centred care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide and support the delivery of high quality nursing care and suppor for women with early pregnancy complications and acute gynaecological problems
  • Work autonomously and as part of the specialist gynaecology team. You will also act as a resource to other professionals regarding early pregnancy, emergency gynaecology, associated treatment and issues.
  • Perform and report ultrasounds for early pregnancy and gynaecology.
  • Be able to counsel women undergoing pregnancy loss as well as other gynaecological emergencies,.
  • Assist with training doctors to scan, assist doctors during procedures and patient examinations.
  • Undertake full nursing assessment, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Provide information, counselling and support to women and their families experiencing early pregnancy complications and gynaecology emergency. Be able to provide guidance regarding patient's wellness, lifestyle, disease risks and potential changes in health status.
  • Proactively participate in the coordination of the woman's care across the patient pathway, developing the pathway across the various setting to maximise patient satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Support the lead clinical nurse specialist and directorate senior nursing team in developing and maintaining the highest specialist nursing care
