Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) as a Consultant Midwife for complex birth. ICHT is expanding their midwifery leadership structure to ensure there is strong leadership to take forward the maternity services in line with the Ockenden requirements.

We are therefore seeking a Consultant Midwife for complex birth who would like to be part of this exciting transformation of services, working with the senior team to provide strategic direction for the maternity services.

The primary aim of the role is to provide expert clinical care and leadership within the maternity services, ensuring that there is effective education and training, practice and service development and research evaluation. The post holder will contribute to the strong, positive, multi-disciplinary culture and take responsibility for leading the promotion and evaluation of complex pregnancy and birth.

The Maternity Service at ICHT delivers services across two hospital sites for approximately 8,500 births per year; Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital and St Mary's Hospital, and in the community. The Maternity service at ICHT also includes a large and renowned private maternity service. Our maternity and obstetrics service provides care for women and babies throughout pregnancy, labour.

Main duties of the job

  • The role of the consultant midwife is to provide expert clinical care and leadership within the maternity services. By working in collaboration with the Maternity Triumvirate (Head of Midwifery, General Manager and Clinical Director) and wider senior team the consultant midwife will deliver clinical care and ensure there is effective leadership, education and training, practice and service development and research/evaluation within the maternity service.
  • The Consultant Midwife will have specific responsibility for leading the promotion and evaluation of complex pregnancy and birth within the maternity service with a particular focus on supporting women experiencing complex birth across the antenatal, birth and postnatal pathways.
  • The consultant midwife will also lead and empower senior intrapartum leads, practice development 2 midwives and managers in all areas
