There is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Oncologist to join the team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). This post will be specialising in colorectal and urology and is being offered as 8PA, It may be possible to increase PA to full time based on additional activities, subject to discussion and funding. This is initially a fixed term locum with plans to substantiate role in future.
We are a department of 16 NHS clinical oncologists, four of whom are shared appointments with partner Trusts, and five NHS medical oncologists with eight clinical academics also supporting clinical services. There is therefore a major opportunity for academic development, education and research, working closely with Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre. We have been expanding and developing our clinical service, and pride ourselves on being a collegiate and supportive oncology department. We are a local and regional provider of specialist technical radiotherapy for Northwest London, covering a population of 2million. We offer radiotherapy and outpatient services at Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals, with a newly commissioned linear accelerator on the Hammersmith site and 4 Linacs at Charing Cross, 2 of which are stereotactic compatible. Brachytherapy services are based at Hammersmith hospital, and part of this role would be to develop prostate technical radiotherapy services options.
Main duties of the job
This post is an additional post to cater for our growing patient population and fits into a well-established clinical oncology team at Charing Cross hospital, supporting local populations around Northwest London. This colorectal (and anal cancer) component of the role will be taking over the current established practice from Dr Suzy Cleator. The successful candidate will join the team of 2 clinical oncologists (Dr Basak ICHT; Dr Perry (NWLH/ICHT) based at Charing Cross and 1 medical oncologist (Prof Wasan) supported by Prof Valeri (Acacdemic) based at Hammersmith hospital. A key development will be to link the CRC service to the tertiary referral liver oncology service at Hammersmith Hospital to ensure a Trust wide equitable access.
The urology post is an expansion of the team. A key component of this job will be to develop and establish a prostate brachytherapy service, and other technical radiotherapy services for prostate cancer, and will be most likely based at Hammersmith Hospital where currently the brachytherapy service is located. We have recently been established as a body stereotactic service (linac based) for pelvic nodes. Currently the clinical oncology team delivery Prostate services include; Dr Alison Falconer, Dr Steven Mangar, Dr Dolan Basak, Dr Waqar Saleem. The metastatic prostate service is supported by medical oncology (Dr Sarwar & Dr Gonzalez)
