Job summary

As a Qlik developer within the Business Intelligence team , you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a wide range of qlik applications accessed through the Trust's Busines Intelligence portal. Applications cover areas such as real time patient flow through the hospital , performance management metrics , finance information , staffing information amongst others.

You will offer expertise and experience in developing Qlik data models and applications.

Main duties of the job

To be part of a team providing complete, accurate and timely Business Intelligence to support performance, research and education.

Working collaboratively with stakeholders, the post holder will be responsible for developing Qlik data marts and front end QlikView and QlikSense applications, maximising the potential of the available information.

This will involve leading the development and provision of reporting tools and dashboards, supporting clinicians and senior management with increased visualisation and improved accessibility of data.

The post holder will also be responsible for the day to running of the QlikView Business Intelligence portal.

Service Development

  • To maintain and provide technical support for all QlikView applications for which the Business Intelligence team is responsible.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of the Trusts Informatics Strategy.
  • In conjunction with colleagues across the Trust, lead on the design, development, testing and release of new QlikView and QlikSense applications.
  • Support the development and provision of activity and demand and capacity modelling to support Trust wide strategic planning and division business cases.
  • To plan QlikView developments in line with the priority status allocated at Business Intelligence Steering group.
  • Support the deployment of the Trusts reporting system in a consistent and coherent method across the organisation.
  • Provide support or project management for Trust-wide reporting projects, as directed by the Deputy CIO Performance Support and Business Intelligence.
  • Provide support or project management for activities to support income recovery, as required.
  • Provide support or project management for implementation of NHS Data Set Change Notices/Information Standards Bulletins (DSCNs/ISBs), as required.
  • Assist in the procurement, implementation and support of new systems which may be required to deliver business intelligence to internal and external stakeholders/customers.
  • Test hardware and software applications to quality assure them before they go live.

Data Quality

  • Lead on specific Information Governance Standards compliance as directed.
  • Promote a wider understanding of data quality and its implications throughout the Trust.
  • Be aware of and promote national and local policies, issues, and initiatives relating to data collected and stored by the Trust.
  • Ensure that the data is maintained in line with national definitions as laid down in the NHS Data Manual and Data Dictionary, with necessary updates for Data Set Change Notices/Information Standards Bulletins (DSCNs/ISBs).
  • Lead the root cause analysis and resolution of data quality errors.
  • Support initiatives to promote the use of NHS number as a key means of patient identification and linkage.

  • Plan and organise work schedules for the team. Use own initiative to resolve operational problems wherever possible, taking advice from manager if required.
  • Support and train staff on NHS Standards and Data Dictionary and business intelligence good practice, as required.
  • Support the recruitment of new staff, as directed by the Deputy Head of Business Intelligence.
  • Support the development of documentation and ensure it is kept up to date (e.g. procedures, distribution lists).
  • Work within organisational and professional policies and procedures.
