Job summary

AIM OF THE ROLE:

To facilitate the provision of high quality care to all patients in your sphere of practice within the Trust or external organisations.

To provide a full range of Occupational Health nursing services to NHS and external staff as an experienced Occupational Health Nurse Specialist as identified in the RCN (2004) document Integrated Career and Competency Framework.

To provide highly efficient occupational health care to the Trust's employees and other private clients, without supervision

To provide impartial advice to employee and employers

To monitor standard of nursing care in the department and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them

To respond appropriate to health and safety concerns raised by employees and employers

To give general health and travel advice to employees and managers

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES:

Act as a specialist occupational health adviser Occupational Health service.

Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for employees in the following areas: sickness absence management, safe return to work and health risk management and appropriate health surveillance.

Carry out planned care without direct supervision

Managing a caseload of clients

Assist and advice HR, line managers and employees with regards to matter pertaining to personal health advice, health and safety at work

Support newly appointed nurses in order to facilitate their settlement into post

Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines in accordance with the Trusts policy

Work with stakeholders and employees in order to reduce work-related accidents

To provide a contractual occupational health service to private clients

To carry out workstation and workplace assessment as required both Trust wide and to the private sector

Report writing with regards to management referral, workstation assessment, workplace assessment as necessary

To assist management in the final recruitment process by carrying out paper health screening, health interview and advising management as necessary

Work Health coaching.

Referral of employee to other multidisciplinary health team in order to prevent, reduce or treat ill-health

Interpret and apply health and safety legislation and ACOP with , well-being and protection of those who work and the wider community

Influence and support the implementation of appropriate occupational health policies via membership of committees and working groups.

Managerial Responsibilities

Arranging case conference involving HR, Manager and employee as requested

Named responsibility for directorates

Clinical operations management

Represent occupational health service at meetings.

Implement risk-based occupational health activities including health surveillance and new starter health screening. Devising teaching programmes for areas of responsibility as required.

Communicate effectively with the Occupational Health and multidisciplinary health team and maintain harmonious working environment

Liaising with managers re: safe and phased return to work program

Be responsible for the adequate documentation and care of my patients record

Participate in audit and any changes to improve standards

Participate in investigations into complaints, clinical incidents and medication incidents as they occur and provide written reports when required.

Maintain a safe and healthy environment

Ensuring the availability of appropriate resources for patient care through controlling departmental stock

Ensure equipment is in good working order, and to report any damage to the appropriate department for repair or replace.

To assist with the training, supervision and support of junior nursing staff in the delivery of quality Occupational Health Specialist nursing care, including mentorship and appraisal.

To provide peripatetic services to external contracts

Education, training and health promotion

Assess the need of employee and employers and provide them with necessary information and advice

Act as a role model, mentor, and preceptor to the junior nursing staff

Lead and participate in health promotion days

To support and empower employees and employers through teaching and education
