Job summary
The recruitment of consultants to an NHS Trust is a key activity to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to the local population. At London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust and at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, we are working together to recruit lay chairs to support both of our Trusts in this critical activity. We are seeking lay chairs to lead our interview panels (a lay chair is someone who is not an employee of the Trust). In each Trust we hold several recruitment panels every month to recruit Medical & Dental Consultants. This is an important decision making process and supports our ability to provide high quality safe care to our patients in North West London. The process we follow is defined in the Department of Health, The National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations, 2005.
Have you got what it takes?
Ideally, we are looking for people who live locally with an interest in supporting their local hospital. You may have an interest in Human Resources, Recruitment or have experience in business in your career. You will want to support the Trusts in delivering its services. You will be paid a fee for the time you spend carrying out the role and reasonable travel expenses.
We are carrying out a joint recruitment campaign and you will have the opportunity to indicate a preference for which Trust you would like to join.
Selection process including interview to be held week of 26th September/3rd October
Main duties of the job
Requirements of the role - You will be required to commit to several days per year (minimum 10) to support the AAC panel process. Your role will be to ensure that the recruitment process is carried out according to the Trust policy and ensure that all candidates are treated fairly and equitably.
The role of the Lay Chair involves
- Ensuring AACs are planned effectively, conducted according to the Trust policy and procedure, national regulations for AACs and that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner.
- Facilitating constructive and productive panel discussions, enabling all panel members to contribute to decision making and managing disagreements in assessment of candidates between panel members
- Bringing independence, external perspectives, skills and challenge to ensure a robust selection process for consultant appointments
- Ensure that key decisions around selection are objective, based upon the person specification and that these decisions can be justified.
