Job summary

The post-holder will join the ambulatory gynaecology and early pregnancy team,supporting the department's strategic transition towards a predominantly ambulatorymodel of gynaecological care. The service delivers rapid-access, patient-centredpathways designed to avoid unnecessary admission, streamline diagnosis and providedefinitive management at first attendance wherever possible. The department has astrong ethos of innovation, efficiency and multidisciplinary collaboration andcontinues to expand its one-stop diagnostic and treatment pathways across acute andelective gynaecology.The successful candidate will play a central role in the delivery and development ofambulatory services, working across the Elizabeth Suite (early pregnancy and acutegynaecology), the Ambulatory Gynaecology Suite (outpatient hysteroscopy and minorprocedures), one-stop benign gynaecology scan clinics and Urgent Suspected Cancer(USC/2WW) scan clinics. The expectation is that the appointee will work closely withconsultant colleagues, specialist nurses and sonographers to deliver timelyassessment, investigation and treatment in a single visit wherever feasible.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a central role in the delivery and development of ambulatory services, working across the Elizabeth Suite (early pregnancy and acute gynaecology), the Ambulatory Gynaecology Suite (outpatient hysteroscopy and minor procedures), one-stop benign gynaecology scan clinics and Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC/2WW) scan clinics. The expectation is that the appointee will work closely withconsultant colleagues, specialist nurses and sonographers to deliver timelyassessment, investigation and treatment in a single visit wherever feasible.The post-holder will be expected to deliver exceptional patient care within thedepartment and provide a high-quality service in conjunction with consultantcolleagues, residents and advanced clinical practitioners. The successful candidate willmaintain continuous responsibility for patients under their care, ensuring safedecision-making and appropriate escalation within acute gynaecology and earlypregnancy pathways.

The appointee will contribute to: Early pregnancy assessment and management within the Elizabeth Suite,including management of miscarriage, pregnancy of unknown location andectopic pregnancy Acute gynaecology assessment and ambulatory management pathways Outpatient hysteroscopy and minor operative procedures under localanaesthesia One-stop benign gynaecology clinics incorporating ultrasound assessment andimmediate treatment planning Urgent Suspected Cancer (2WW) scan clinics and rapid access investigationpathwaysResearch, audit and continuous governance are integral to the department and thesuccessful candidate will actively participate in these activities. The post-holder will beexpected to supervise Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs), participate in regularaudits and contribute to service development initiatives aimed at improving patientflow, reducing admissions and enhancing patient experience.Education is a core departmental priority. The appointee will support training ofresidents and fellows, particularly in ambulatory assessment, outpatient proceduresand ultrasound-led decision making. They will be encouraged to enhance educationalopportunities through service development and teaching activities.The Directorate hosts weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and educationalsessions where cases are reviewed and audits presented. Monthly Consultantmeetings and Gynaecology morbidity and mortality meetings are held, and the postholderwill participate fully in these forums.
